Lubbock residents invited to free dental clinic

Dentists from Abbeville Dentistry are inviting local people from the Lubbock area to a free dental event this Saturday.

The free clinic is being held in conjunction with Dentistry from the Heart, a non-profit organisation, which provides free dental treatment for thousands of Americans every year.

Dentists are planning to provide treatment for the first 100 people to register, although they will treat more patients if they have enough time. Staff at the clinic have already been told by some patients that they are planning to camp outside the night before to ensure that they get a slot at the clinic; the practice has installed portable toilets outside for those who are planning to queue prior to the opening of the surgery.

During the day, dentists will provide treatments, including fillings, extractions and cleaning treatments to adults without dental insurance; the clinic will also be open to those with a low income.

Britt Bostick, owner of the Abbeville practice, said that the clinic was a great way to give back to the community and a means of helping those who would otherwise find it very difficult to get treatment. Bostick said that the clinic was justified already, with many patients already telling staff that they plan to queue for several hours in order to get an appointment; Bostick said this highlights the need for free and affordable treatment, as many people are now reliant on free clinics to get the treatment they need.
