Locals Launch Petition To Save NHS Dental Practice In Galloway

A local paper has launched a petition to save an NHS dental practice in Galloway after health officials revealed plans to close a surgery and relocate services in Newton Stewart.

The Galloway Gazette is encouraging local residents to sign the petition after health authorities confirmed plans to close the dental practice at Newton Stewart Health Centre and move patients to two independent practices in the town.

A meeting was held between local residents and NHS chiefs last week and the overwhelming feeling is that people want the services to remain in place. The campaign to save the service is also being supported by Alistair Geddes, the local Member of Parliament for Mid Galloway, who has also praised the paper for setting up the petition. Mr Geddes said that the petition gives people a chance to share their views on an important local issue.

The deadline for signing the petition is the 2nd June and it will be presented to health officials on the 5th June at a committee meeting in Stranraer.

Some of the concerns raised by existing patients at the health centre include a lack of parking and problems with access for disabled patients.
