Linsdale Dentist Teams Up With Local Children to Highlight Sugar Dangers

A dentist from Linsdale has teamed up with local children to highlight the dangers of eating sugary foods and treats.

In the run-up to Halloween, when kids all over the country are preparing to go trick or treating, dentist Dr Debbie Ganguli is eager to underline the effects of eating a lot of sugar. Dr Ganguli and the children in year 6 at High Ash Church of England Primary School have been learning about the effects of eating sweets, cakes and biscuits and drinking fizzy pop.

Dr Ganguli has been teaching the children about healthy eating and oral hygiene using a range of resources and a fun and interactive style. The children have been dressing up as dentists and dental nurses in role play scenarios, learning about the importance of a healthy diet and making up healthy food plans.

After their informative sessions, the children presented their new found knowledge to the teachers and fellow pupils, giving speeches about oral health and playing out scenes at the dentist.

Lindsey Harper, year 6 teacher, said that the kids appreciated the presentations and perhaps learned more than they would from a teacher giving a normal lesson. The children involved in the sessions had great fun and they learned a lot about taking care of their teeth and making healthy food choices.

Dr Ganguli was awarded the 2014 Private Dentistry Award for the Best Children’s Dental Health Initiative.
