The 1st Linsdale Beaver Colony has been brushing up on their oral hygiene habits after receiving a visit from their local dentist.

Dentist, Dr Debbie Ganguli, from Cherry Trees Dental, visited the beavers as part of a community initiative run by the practice.

Dr Ganguli said that it is important that children learn and adopt good habits from an early age and educational sessions allow children to learn about oral health in a fun, relaxed and informal manner. Dr Ganguli said that it is essential that children have the knowledge and information to enable them to look after their teeth during the early years of childhood so that they can avoid preventable illnesses, such as dental decay and gum disease.

Leader of the beavers, Louise Betley, said that the leaders try to invite a varied and interesting range of people to talk to the children and the visit from Dr Ganguli was informative, fun and important for the children’s future. Children were invited to take part in a range of games and activities, which taught them about the importance of brushing their teeth for two minutes and the impact your diet has on your oral health and all the beavers received a goody bay.

Dr Ganguli said that the aim of the session was to educate the children, but also to ensure that they had fun. The children filled in worksheets, played games and went home with an oral health goody bag each and the evening was a great success.
