Lerwick dental team pulls together to re-open surgery following flooding

Sample News Big

The team from a newly-opened dental practice in Lerwick, Shetland, is working together to get the surgery up and running again after a burst pipe caused flooding in the reception area.

The Family Dental Clinic has only just opened and the incident will force it to close for a few days; however, the clinic is expected to open as normal next week thanks to the efforts of members of staff, who are working hard to clean up. Reception staff members are still taking bookings for next week.

Dentist Michael Rylko, said that the incident was unfortunate, but thankfully, all the patient records are safe and the treatment rooms have not been affected. There won’t be any appointments this week, but hopefully everything will be back to normal by next week. Fortunately, none of the expensive dental equipment has been affected and it may be possible to save the computer located in the reception area.

Mr Rylko’s wife, the practice manager, Agnieszka Kozera, and Kelly Nicol, a dental hygienist, are working tirelessly to mop up the reception area and buckets have been put out to catch any stray drops.

Dental nurse, Rachel Boxall, raised the alarm early on Tuesday morning and she was told to shut off the water supply by fire fighters, who later identified a faulty pipe in the flat above reception.
