Leftover medical and dental supplies from the 2010 Winter Olympics will be sent to the Canadian Medical Assistance Team, who are working to help people in Haiti, it has been announced.

Following the Olympics, thousands of dollars worth of supplies were left and the Vancouver Organizing Committee has revealed that they will now be sent to help the people of Haiti. Haiti was hit by a very powerful earthquake in January and thousands of people were killed and thousands of others left homeless; public services and buildings were ruined and many were left without access to even the most basic healthcare. The aid packages sent from Vancouver will include bandages, suture kits and surgical instruments.

Over 900 kilograms of medical and dental supplies will be sent to help the aid effort in Haiti; the supplies will arrive in Port au Prince today. It will come as a welcome boost for aid workers, who are continuing to help rebuild the city and assist those in need. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world, with the majority of the population living below the poverty line; the government simply does not have the money or resources to be able to even think about regenerating the area and restoring public services and is relying heavily on charities and help from governments of more developed countries. So far, millions of pounds have been pledged but support must continue.
