Leamington dentist covers parking charges

A Leamington dentist is offering to pay for his patient’s parking charges, after fees were increased around his surgery.

Roy Dixon, of Augusta Dental Care in Augusta Place, has confirmed that he will pay for two hours of parking per patient. Mr Dixon has reacted angrily to increases in parking charges and overenthusiastic traffic wardens.

Other local business owners have also criticised the increase in parking fees and recently the Leamington Chamber of Trade called for Warwickshire County Council to reduce the short-stay parking fees, as they fear that high prices may threaten the success of local shops.

Mr Dixon agrees with the Chamber of Trade but has insisted that he feels for the people, who have no option but to go into town to see a dentist or access other important services. The parking rates are too high and this could affect the frequency people attend the dental surgery, which in turn may have an adverse effect on their oral health.

Mr Dixon said that because of the location of the practice, there was no alternative for patients and as a result of this, he has agreed to pay for two hours of parking for patients visiting the surgery for a check-up or treatment. Mr Dixon is also happy for patients to use the full two hours even if they only spend half an hour at the surgery, as this will encourage them to support local businesses.

Parking charges for short visits to town have increased significantly; rates for half an hour and an hour have doubled.
