92-year-old Bernard Bell is currently seeking a large fee of up to $50,000, after a dental tool negligently fell down his throat and into his stomach.

The man from Chicago was having a dental implant fitted by Skokie’s own Dr. Toni Wolf, when he felt the object slide down his throat.

Mr Bell said he was lying back in the dental chair when Dr. Wolf asked him if he caught the object. He then responded quickly saying he didn’t catch anything and was unaware that he had to catch anything in the first place.

The incident took place last November but since Mr Bell has required an MRI and two endoscopies in order to remove the tool. Instead of making its way through Mr Bell’s digestive tract the object remained trapped inside his stomach causing intense pain.

Several X-rays displayed the movement of the tool, never staying in the same place, which caused the agonising complexities of the case. Mr Bell stated that doctors had to hold his arms during the second endoscopy because of the intense pain he experienced.

Mr Bell was charged with over $20,000 of medical expenses and is currently seeking around $50,000 from the Old Orchard Practice in damages. His attorney stated that Mr Bell suffered as a result of Dr. Wolf’s malpractice and negligence.
