Latvia is popular with dental tourists

More and more Western European patients that are seeking cheaper dental treatments are visiting Latvia to achieve the perfect smile.

Since the fall of the Soviet Union the quality of medical in Eastern European countries has improved hugely and is now in some ways better than in many Western European countries.

Riga, Latvia’s capital, is now seeing a spate of first-class dental clinics springing up all over the city that are treating patients from the UK, Norway, Ireland, Sweden and the US.

Even with the cost of hotels, flights and treatments many Brits believe it is still cheaper to make the trip to Riga for dental care.

Many of the Latvian clinics are now offering discounted whitening and implant services as well as concierge treatment, transport from the airport and hotel reservations.

Dr Olga Galkina, of Baltic Dental Services, a busy dental practice which opens on Sunday to accommodate weekend dental tourists, said that she tries to make foreign patients feel like they are in their local dentist.
