A dental nurse from Lanarkshire is helping to spread festive cheer after collecting Christmas gifts for underprivileged children.

Emily Lynch, from Cambuslang, has collected more than 200 presents, providing five different charities with gifts to pass on to children who might not get much this Christmas.

Emily and her friend Zoe appealed for extra gifts and donations a few weeks ago and local residents have rallied, supporting the causes with an array of presents.

Emily makes it her mission to spread joy every year and has collected even more presents this year than last year when she handed out 194 gifts. Talking about this year’s campaign, she said that the response has been “amazing” and thanked local people for their generosity.

As well as adding to Emily and Zoe’s pile of gifts, Emily said that people who donated through them last year have taken it upon themselves to donate to the causes themselves this Christmas.

The presents have been donated to five charities, including Barnardo’s Glasgow and Easterhouse, Social Work Easterhouse, Sean’s Trust Social Work, Broomloan Nursery and Aberlour Glasgow.

Emily and Zoe have been running the scheme for a few years and every Christmas, the number of presents seems to increase. Although there have been challenges during the pandemic, people have been incredibly generous and Emily has been able to adapt the way she collects donations to stay safe and reduce risks.
