Members of staff at a dental practice in King’s Lynn say that they have been “overwhelmed” by support for an initiative for a local food bank.

Smiles Better dental practice in Norfolk Street has been collecting donations for King’s Lynn Food Bank on Mondays and staff members said that there had been a great deal of support for the initiative. The team will be collecting donations for the bank until the 16th December.

Food collections are also taking place at supermarkets in Downham, Fakenham, Swaffham and King’s Lynn from Friday 29th November and collections are scheduled for next weekend in Hunstanton.

Officials from the food bank claim that there has been a significant increase in demand for the services of the bank, despite good news relating to the economy. The number of people seeking help from the bank rose by 44 per cent in the six months leading up to October in comparison to the same period of time last year.

Andy King, collections organiser, said that a large variety of people are now using the food bank, not just those who are unemployed or on benefits.
