Kin Kora students set to miss out on dental care

Students from Kin Kora State School are set to miss out on dental care after the school rejected an offer of a free dental service from Queensland Health.

Education Queensland Regional Director, Wayne Butler, said that the school did not currently meet the required safety standards and therefore would not be able to benefit from the free school dental visits provided by the health board. According to Mr Butler, the school does not have adequate space to cater for the dental van and falls short of other requirements for the service.

Local parent Craig Tomfett said that it was a shame for the children to miss out on a valuable service. He said that it simply was not good enough that the school could not cater for the van and was upset that the children would be forgoing such an important opportunity.

Mr Butler said that the children would not miss out on dental care because they would invited to attend another clinic and Queensland Health reiterated this statement, confirming that children from Kin Kora State School would continue to receive dental treatment.
