Is Black Tea Good for Your Teeth?

Sample News Big

Black tea, although often overlooked by green tea, also has a number of health benefits, which can provide a boost to both general and oral health.

Dr Carrie Ruxton of the Tea Advisory Panel commented on the health properties of black tea, after the Tea Advisory Panel research was published in Network Health Dieticians. The study found that the high level of flavonoids, fluoride and antibacterial properties present in black tea, protected teeth from tooth decay, by killing bacteria and also caring for tooth enamel.

Black tea shares many properties with green tea, both containing similar compounds and only differing in the way they are processed.

The research also found that drinking four cups of black tea each day could cut the drinker’s risk of developing heart disease.

However, those who worry about the potential staining effect of drinking tea and do not wish to have artificial whitening can turn to the humble lemon for help, which is noted for its natural teeth whitening properties. Drinking water immediately after tea can also help rinse out the staining elements of a nice brew and keep your teeth shining and bright.
