A recent price survey has revealed that dental fees in the Republic of Ireland are amongst the highest in the world.

The Global Health and Dental Price Index, which was published by Avantis Health, showed that prices were up to 70 percent higher than some other European countries; the list included prices from 12 countries.

The index showed that the cost of a tooth extraction was highest in Ireland; the average fee for the treatment was 90 Euros, in comparison to 75 Euros in England, 30 Euros in Hungary and 21 Euros in India.

A dental examination and consultation was priced at 65 Euros in the Republic, while other European countries charged a lot less; in Spain examinations are widely available for no fee and the average fee in Italy was just 27 Euros.

The price index confirmed that fees for other dental treatments, including crowns, wisdom tooth extraction, dental X-rays and dental implants were considerably higher in Ireland than most of the other countries included in the index; the UK topped the list for some treatments.

The index also confirmed that medical fees were also relatively high in Ireland; a patient in Germany requiring treatment for cruciate ligament damage could expect to pay around half as much as a patient in Ireland, for example.
