Insurance companies are keen to promote dental plans after a survey revealed that almost forty percent of people in the UK are struggling to afford dental treatment.

A Simplyhealth survey  involved 10,000 adults in the UK and found that people are avoiding going to see their dentist on a regular basis because they cannot afford the cost of dental care. The survey showed that adults in England were struggling more than people in Wales and Scotland, where dental fees are considerably lower.

Dentists have said that the results of the survey are shocking and many have advised patients to ensure that they visit their dentist on a regular basis; avoiding appointments may increase the risk of serious health problems, which will cost a lot more to treat in the long-run. Dentists are also worried that people are viewing dental treatment as a luxury item; numerous studies have confirmed a link between poor oral health and an increased risk of serious health issues and it is important that people realise the importance of good oral health.

In light of the alarming results of the Simplyhealth survey, insurance plans have been touted as a potential answer to the problem of cost; paying just a few pounds each month can cover the cost of regular dental care and taking out a policy will eliminate the worry of an unexpected bill. There is now a huge range of policies available, offering various levels of cover.
