Hundreds of people attended a dental event organised by the Sri Lankan army.

The army organised educational events, as well as a dental clinic, to help raise awareness of oral health issues and treat people who have not visited a dentist for a long time.

A number of other health programmes took place at the same time and hundreds of people were involved in the events. Around 76 students and seven teachers received dental treatment and hundreds attended the educational seminar.

The clinic was staffed by Dr Sirinivasan, a dental surgeon from the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, Dr Senthilkumaran, a dental surgeon from Manthikai Hospital and a team of medical staff from the Manthikai Hospital.

Standards of oral health are poor in many areas of Sri Lanka and the event was designed to teach people about oral hygiene and how to prevent oral health problems, so that people can spread the message and take steps to protect their teeth and gums.
