A dentist from Hull is travelling to Africa to help a local tribe.

Chris Branfield will lead a team of volunteers on an eight-day expedition to the North East of Morocco, to help the Berber tribe. The trip will take place at the end of September and will provide much needed care for the Berber people.

The Berber tribe live close to the Mediterranean Sea and suffer from widespread dental health problems; the most common dental health issue is gingivitis. Gingivitis is usually a mild condition; however, if it is left untreated it can develop into periodontal disease, which can be very serious and may lead to tooth loss and severe pain.

Chris Branfield is a trustee of a charity, which works to provide dental treatment to needy people across the world; the work is tough and varied but always rewarding, according to the dentist. Chris, from Castle Park Dental Centre in Cottingham, said that the experience will be completely unique; he is looking forward to the challenge and is pleased to be getting an insight into traditional tribal life.

Branfield is covering the cost of the trip himself but the practice is also raising money for the expedition and donations will be gratefully received.
