Horsham dental practice joins recycling scheme to raise money for local school

Sample News Big

A dental practice in Horsham is donating money raised by recycling oral health products to a local school.

Eastmews Dental Care has joined the Colgate and Hello Oral Care Recycling Programme, which runs in partnership with Terracycle. Terracycle specialises in products that are traditionally hard to recycle, including oral care waste.

Michelle Skeet, practice manager, is encouraging patients and residents to get involved in the scheme. The programme is beneficial for the environment and the practice is also supporting the Friends of Trafalgar School. The practice has set up a drop-off point, which is open to all. The products are collected and recycled by Teracycle, saving the waste from ending up in landfill.

The Eastmews Dental Care team is collecting plastic toothbrushes, brush heads and tubes of toothpaste, as well as plastic packaging for oral hygiene products. This type of waste is not usually collected by council-run waste removal and recycling services and this means that it often ends up in general waste bound for landfill.

Ms Skeet explained that we generate a lot of oral waste due to replacing brushes and brush heads frequently to maintain good dental health. The recycling scheme is designed to make it convenient and hassle-free for local people in Horsham to drop off their waste products and ensure that more items are recycled. Since opening the drop-off point, the practice team has collected more than 2,000 items.

Everyone is encouraged to get involved to embrace greener ways of living and support Trafalgar School. Items can be left at the practice drop-off point between 8.15am and 6pm on weekdays.
