Hope for Nervous Dental Patients as New Painless Filler becomes Available

Sample News Big

Many of us dread a trip to the dentist especially if there is drilling and filling involved, but a new dental device could be about to change this.

A new painless filling device, called a Plasma Brush, can hollow out a cavity in just 30 seconds without any pain at all, spelling the end of the dreaded dental drill. The high-tech brush uses chemical reactions to clean cavities and the device also creates a bond to the tooth, which is considerably stronger than the bonds formed by current techniques and this means that fillings will last a longer in the future.

The Plasma Brush was developed by scientists at the University of Missouri in conjunction with medical technology firm, Nanova and the team is confident that their invention will make a huge difference to the way dentistry is practised in the future. Engineering professor, Hao Li, said that studies show the fillings are 60 percent stronger than conventional fillings.

Clinical trials on the Plasma Brush are set to begin soon and if the product is approved it could change the face of modern dentistry. Around 75 percent of procedures involve fillings.
