A much-loved, highly respected dentist from Essex has passed away in hospital in London. Dr Michael Daly was hit by an ambulance attending a call in February. He was put in an induced coma at the time and never regained consciousness. He died at St George’s Hospital, Tooting, on Friday 3rd June.

Dr Daly had just left work Oasis Dental Care in Danbury when he was hit by the ambulance. The collision occurred at the crossroads by the Co-op. The 77 year old suffered extensive injuries and was taken to London for emergency treatment. The incident happened on the 5th of February. Following extensive investigations, doctors revealed that the popular dentist had suffered brain damage, significant head injuries, spinal injuries and a punctured lung. He had also lost the use of his right eye. He was placed in an induced coma and sadly never woke up.

Police have confirmed that investigations into the crash are ongoing. A 40 year old woman voluntarily agreed to talk to police after the incident, but it is not yet clear whether or not she was the driver of the ambulance. The vehicle was responding to a call out from a doctor for a patient with a suspected infection in Burnham-on-Sea. The East of England Ambulance Service has since confirmed that the call was treated as an emergency, but the case was in fact a non-emergency.

Tributes have poured in for Dr Daly, who was a very popular member of the local community. Patients and colleagues took to social media to share heartwarming tales of Dr Daly’s practise and many said what a lovely, caring man he was.
