Hertfordshire Dentist Offers Free Oral Cancer Screening

Sample News Big

A Hertfordshire dental practice is offering free oral cancer screening appointments this Thursday, as part of Mouth Cancer Action Month.

The Facial and Dental Aesthetic Studio on Cambridge Road will be hosting free screening checks this Thursday.

Principal dentist, Simon Lam, said that patients will be given a thorough examination during the appointment, to enable dentists to search for signs and symptoms of mouth cancer. If any problems are identified, the patients will be referred to oral surgeons as quickly as possible. He added that many patients have already benefited from screening.

David How, a patient who lives in Braughing, has already had two operations after he was diagnosed with mouth cancer but added that he was lucky because his surgeon said the cancer would have been too advanced to treat if it had been left for another 3 weeks. He is now urging everyone to take advantage of the screening checks available and to visit their dentist for regular check-ups. The test only takes a few minutes but it can save lives.

Mouth Cancer Action Month is run by the British Dental Health Foundation and will run throughout November with screening clinics and events being held all over the UK to awareness of the disease. Mouth cancer has become increasingly prevalent, with an increase of 50 percent over the last decade alone.
