A dental nurse from Helston, Cornwall is celebrating after being selected to care for athletes at the London Olympics this summer.

Holly Struthers started the application process to volunteer at the games as soon as it was announced that London had been successful in securing the bid. At the time she was still studying at Cardiff Dental School and was desperate to volunteer in any capacity.

As Holly started gaining more experience and qualifications, she updated her application and has since become one of just 10 specialist nurses to join the medical team at the games.

Holly will now form part of a dental team of 20, which will be based at the Olympic Village during the games, which begin in July.

Holly has had a successful year- not only has she been chosen out of hundreds of applicants to join the dental team at the Olympic Games she is also one of a handful of successful candidates to be accepted onto the dental hygiene course at Cardiff Dental School.

Holly gained experience by working at the Meneage dental surgery in Helston with dentists, Paul Hogg and Scott Brown during her time at university.
