Health minister, Neil O’Brien has promised the MP for Taunton Deane, Rebecca Pow, that positive news on dental services is coming soon.

Ms Pow met with Mr O’Brien recently to discuss NHS dental services within her constituency. She identified dentistry as one of the top issues affecting local people and wanted to speak with the minister to talk about progress on improving access. Ms Pow had already met with representatives from the British Dental Association, where she raised concerns over the lack of access to NHS dentists in Taunton and the surrounding area.

Speaking about the situation, Ms Pow said that the problem has reached “crisis point,” with many people now finding it virtually impossible to get a dental appointment, even when they need urgent help.

Mr O’Brien promised the Taunton Deane MP that good news was coming and suggested that further updates on improving dental access would be announced in the coming weeks. He also indicated that a “comprehensive package” has been put together to enable more patients to see NHS dentists, the details of which will be shared soon.

Ms Pow said that she was happy to hear of good news in the pipeline but stressed that she will continue to press for positive updates on behalf of her constituents. In some parts of her constituency, including Wellington and Wiveliscombe, there are no NHS dental places available because practices have switched to private care.
