Health chiefs are in talks to bring new dental services to Spalding after patients in the area were dealt a double blow. Two new services were due to open this month, but the opening of both clinics has been delayed amid ongoing recruitment issues.
A new surgery run by JDSP was supposed to open in Winsover Road, while Community Dental Services CIC was due to take up position at Johnson Community hospital in January. However, neither clinic is open, leaving patients facing a wait for treatment.
Locality director for NHS England in Lincolnshire, Jim Heys, confirmed that talks were underway to explore other models and solutions that may ease recruitment problems and bring forward the opening date. Despite the delays, urgent treatment is available at Johnson Community Hospital.
In response to the news, Healthwatch Lincolnshire has called for NHS England to take swift action to ensure that patients in Spalding are able to access the NHS services they need. There was a great deal of excitement when it was revealed that two new practices would be opening in the town, and now, many patients have been left disappointed.
