Patients wishing to join a new NHS dental surgery in Cardigan have been advised not to try and contact the practice directly.

The health board is currently working through a waiting list to ensure that patients with the greatest clinical need receive treatment first.

Health chiefs at Hywel Dda University Health Board have urged patients who are on the waiting list in South Ceredigion to refrain from calling or emailing the new surgery.

Cardigan NHS Dental Practice is opening two new surgeries, with capacity set to increase significantly. Understandably, patients are eager to see a dentist, but the health board has stressed that there is a system in place to ensure that patients who need urgent treatment can visit the practice first.

Patients who are already on the waiting list will be contacted by the health board in due course and anyone who has questions or concerns about the list can contact the dental services team on 01267 229693. Patients can also email [email protected] with details of their name, address and contact information.

Director of Primary Care, Community and Long Term Care at the board, Jill Paterson, described the opening of new surgeries at the Cardigan practice as an “exciting development” and urged residents to be patient, as the board works through the waiting list to accommodate those with priority needs.

Patients have been advised that the new surgeries will be operating in line with current Covid-19 restrictions and regulations, which limit patient numbers.
