Hayle dental patients left in limbo after sudden practice closure

Thousands of local residents in Hayle, Cornwall have been left in limbo after a dental practice closed unexpectedly.

Copperhouse Dental Surgery shut without warning recently, leaving around 4,000 patients without a dentist. The phones have not been answered for the last few weeks and an automated message was recently added to the voicemail stating that the practice had closed due to unforeseen circumstances.

The practice provided treatment for approximately 4,000 patients in the Hayle and St Ives area and had a clean bill of health, according to the most recent Care Quality Commission report.

News of the sudden closure is likely to cause anxiety among local residents, with dental access already a major issue in Cornwall. Patients have not received any updates from the practice and many feel as though they have left in the dark.

Samantha Lines, from Hayle, said that she hadn’t been told anything about the closure of the practice and is now in limbo, along with hundreds of others, some of whom had already paid for NHS treatment in advance.

Her daughter is already waiting for corrective dental treatment, her son has not seen a dentist for over 2 years and her husband needs regular dental visits due to a heart condition.

A new practice is due to open in St Ives but waiting lists in Cornwall are lengthy and there are widespread concerns among those who were registered with Copperhouse Dental Surgery about being able to get an appointment in the near future.
