Have-a-go hero bitten by happyslappers
A good Samaritan was bitten when he tried to help a happyslapping victim.
A 15-year-old girl, who was being filmed by friends, savagely bit Fabio Da Silva’s arm when he tried to stop her attacking an elderly man.
Mr Da Silva, who is 23 and originally Portugal, was also racially abused by the out-of-control teen, who told him that he didn’t deserve to be in this country.
The girl, who cannot be named because of her age, has pleaded guilty to two racially aggravated assaults. Mr Da Silva, a student at Sunderland University called her behaviour ignorant.
Sunderland Magistrates’ Court ordered the now 16-year-old’s mother to pay £300 in compensation and to complete a parenting order for three months. The girl must was sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid work.
Commenting on the sentence, Mr Da Silva said that he didn’t see the point of the £300 fine claiming it wouldn’t make any difference. He added that if he had bitten somebody’s arm in front of a bus full of people he would have done time so why shouldn’t this girl.
The incident occurred on 23 May 2009 when Mr Da Silva, who had been waiting for a bus on Chester Road, saw five teenagers hitting a man in his 60s who had just left the Royalty pub.
He said that the man was mildly drunk and was going home when a girl and boy started punching him and filming it on a mobile phone.
Mr Da Silva tried to stop the attack but the girl turned on him. He tried to escape on a bus but the attack continued. She bit, hit and racially abused him.
He added that it was not the first time youngsters from Sunderland. Had racially abused him.
