A dental practice in Hamilton has new owners.

J & U Blessing, which was set up by siblings, John and Unit Blessing, over thirty years ago, has been sold to Mairead Kilcoyne.

John and Unity decided to start putting the wheels in motion to sell the business as they neared retirement age. The duo wanted to leave the practice together and contacted Christie & Co to oversee the sale.

There was a huge amount of interest in the practice, which serves around 4,000 patients in Hamilton. Within the first 48 hours, there were more than 30 enquiries but, in the end, John said, the siblings narrowed down the field to four “really very good offers.” They had discussed the type of buyer they were looking for and were delighted to pass the reins to first-time buyer, Mairead Kilcoyne.

Mairead graduated from Glasgow University in 2017 and described owning a practice as a “lifetime ambition.” As a resident of South Lanarkshire, she was eager to find a local business. Mairead has almost six years of experience in working in general dental practice and she was looking for an opportunity to take the next step. The practice is well-established and it has an excellent reputation within the area.

Mairead is excited about the prospect of putting her stamp on the business and she is already working on ambitious plans to develop the practice. The business has only offered general dental services in its 30-year history and she believes that there is scope to expand by adding new treatments, including cosmetic dentistry and facial aesthetics.
