Guardian Dental College to Close

Guardian Dental College in India is set to close, it has been confirmed.

Students at the college have not attended any lectures at the college for eight months after the Dental Council of India and Maharashstra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) stopped the university from taking on any new students. Students at the college claimed that the management simply stopped running lectures, leaving them without the tuition they have already paid for.

A number of student protests were held and representatives from the MUHS carried out an inspection of the college, prompting a decision to close the Guardian Dental College and transfer all 57 students to other private dental schools.

Dr Mansing Pawar, dean of Government Dental College in Mumbai and a member of the MUHS inspection panel, said that students will be asked to choose their preferences and they will be transferred to a new institute as soon as possible, with a list of vacant places being posted online for students to consult.

The inspection concluded that the college did not have enough faculty members or suitable infrastructure. Students from Guardian Dental College are hoping that their fees will be sorted by MUHS, as many have already paid.
