Greenock dental surgery to end NHS dental services

A dental surgery in Greenock will cease to provide NHS dental services.

Orangefield Dental Care has become a private dental clinic. The team, comprising Dr John Odeny, Dr Haris Rashid and Miss Holly Mooney, recently emailed patients to inform them that the practice would be switching to private dentistry.

In the message to patients, the dentists explained that the pandemic and current working conditions have made it impossible to continue providing the best “preventative approach” for patients. The team made the difficult decision to stop NHS dental services and offer private care for patients. NHS registration will lapse after three months.

Patients who are currently registered with Orangefield Dental Care will be offered a range of options if they choose to stay at the practice, including pay as you go dental care and subscription to dental plans. There are two membership plans available to make private treatment more affordable.

One patient said that the email had come as a shock and added that they were disappointed. Many people, they said, cannot afford private dental care, even through a membership plan. The cost of living is rising, and private treatment simply isn’t accessible for most patients.

The Orangefield Dental Care owners said that switching to private care would allow the team to focus on preventative treatment and provide patients with the latest treatments and access to state-of-the-art equipment and technology.
