A dentist from Grantham paid local children a visit recently to help them polish their brushing skills.

Hayley Henson, from The Maltings Dental Practice, visited Children 1st nursery to talk to the children about dental hygiene, eating well and looking after their teeth and gums. Hayley’s visit was part of a project the nursery is running called ‘People Who Help Us.’

As part of the topic, nursery classes have been talking about how to brush their teeth and what happens when people go to the dentist.

Hayley’s visit was a brilliant opportunity for the children to learn more about cleaning their teeth and healthy eating and ask questions.

During the visit, Hayley spoke to the kids about brushing and she also brought an array of role-play resources and toys and books to help the children learn through fun, educational activities.

Hayley encouraged the children to get dressed up and use the pretend utensils to stage a mock dental appointment and the kids had loads of fun acting as dentists, assistants and patients for the day.

After the practical activity, there was time to talk about which foods are good and bad for the teeth and to get some tips and tricks to make brushing better.

Acting manager of the nursery, Sam Penn-Berkeley, said that the children were incredibly excited about doing the role-play exercises and meeting Hayley.

The session was great fun for the children, but it also taught them valuable lessons, which could help to reduce the risk of dental problems in the future.

Tooth decay is the most common cause of hospital admissions among young children in the UK.
