Godmanchester councillors welcome plans for a new dental practice

Councillors in Godmanchester have welcomed plans to open a new dental practice in the town.

Town councillors believe that a brand new surgery would represent a “valuable community service,” but the final decision will be made by planning officers at Huntingdonshire District Council.

The proposals relate to a new development in the heart of Godmanchester. Although the plans have been approved by local councillors, concerns were initially raised by Cambridgeshire County Council’s Highways Department due to a lack of parking. Since the proposal was reviewed and the concerns were raised, it has been adapted and resubmitted to underline the positive impact of a local practice, which would enable the majority of patients to walk to their appointments.

The application, which has been made on behalf of Dr Jenny Garcia, outlines plans for the new surgery, including a dedicated wheelchair entrance, three treatment rooms and three parking spaces.

The statement highlights the potential benefits of adding a surgery to the town, which hasn’t had its own dental practice for a number of years. The opening of a new clinic would enable residents to access care on their doorsteps. There is also off-street parking available for those travelling from further afield at Post Street pay and display car park.

The plans have been given the green light by Godmanchester councillors, but representatives from the highways authority are still considering the application and wish to obtain more information about parking facilities in the vicinity. Huntingdonshire District Councillors will announce a final decision in the coming weeks.
