The General Dental Council is seeking to recruit new members to join the Investigating Committee, the panel responsible for investigating complaints against dental professionals in the UK.

The General Dental Council is the authority in charge of regulating dental professionals across the country and the body is now looking for 35 new recruits for the specialist panel. The committee is made up of dentists and other dental workers, as well as members of the public.

The panel handles cases relating to concerns about the practise of dentists and decides whether cases should be closed or referred for further investigation. In some cases, the situation is escalated and the panel refers the situation to the Practice Committee.

More information about the roles and responsibilities is available on the General Dental Council website and application forms can be found in the recruitment section.

The GDC plays a very important role in protecting the public, as well as ensuring that dentists are able to do their job in a safe and healthy working environment. The authority handles a range of issues, from fitness to practise to the legality of providing treatments, and has most recently appeared in the news as a result of recent changes in legislation relating to tooth whitening.
