GDC Promises Registration Fee Freeze

Sample News Big

The General Dental Council has promised to freeze registration fees in 2012.

The announcement means that dentists will pay £576 and dental care professionals will pay £120. Dentists will have to pay the fee by the end of this year, while dental care professionals will pay their fee in July 2012.

The decision to freeze the fees will be welcomed by all dental professionals, especially dental nurses, who have campaigned against an increase, based on the fact that the fee was too high in relation to their salaries.

The fee freeze is in line with the GDC’s strategy and the government’s Command Paper called ‘Enabling Excellence,’ which aims to ensure that GDC resources are managed as effectively as possible.

The 2012 budget plan will continue to support the Fitness to Practise framework and improvements will include more meetings and hearings to speed up cases, a review of legal services and the introduction of a management database.
