A brave dental nurse from Fyfield is preparing to take to the skies for a charity skydive ahead of a trip to Uganda later this year.

Susie Elliott, an agency dental nurse, is doing a skydive in March to raise money for a trip to Uganda with Dentaid in June. Susie has worked as a dental nurse for eight years and is currently covering shifts across the region.

Speaking to the local press, Susie said that she was desperate to get involved with the Dentaid project in Uganda, which she thinks will be “an amazing experience.”

She will be spending two weeks in Africa working with a team of volunteers to provide dental care and visit schools and other community-based facilities to talk to local people about oral hygiene and offer health advice. Susie and the team will also be training medical professionals in the area to help them to provide dental services after they have left.

In the region Susie will be visiting, there is no access to dental care and people have no means of getting treatment if they have dental diseases or they experience pain. Dentaid runs projects across the country to train volunteers and medical professionals, provide advice about preventative care and distribute supplies.

Susie has a fundraising target of £2,450 for the trip. She is already at the halfway mark and is hoping to reach her target in the coming weeks. Over the Christmas holidays, she organised a festive raffle and she is now gearing up for a charity skydive on March 25th. Susie said that she “really nervous” but hoped that it would be a great way to raise money for the trip.

Susie thanked everyone who has already donated to the cause and said that the money will make a real difference to the people she and the Dentaid team will be helping in June.
