Funding For New Oral Health Scheme In Leicestershire

Sample News Big

Leicestershire dental patients are set to benefit from a cash injection of thousands of pounds from the Department of Health. Ministers revealed an additional £30 million would be given to trusts across the UK. Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland has received a total of £570,000.

A sum of £330,000 will be used to create more appointments and allow new patients to register with their local dentist. £240,000 will be spent on oral health schemes and educational projects in the community.

One of the projects will involve Sure Start children’s centres across the region. Children and parents will be taught about oral health and oral hygiene packs of toothbrushes and toothpastes will be available.

Helen Stubbs, senior dental contracts manager, said the funding was great news for local people and that it encouraged people currently not registered with a dental practice to get in touch with the trust to make an appointment.

Information about the practices making more appointments available can be obtained by calling 0116 295 7270. The helpline is open Monday to Friday.

Additional funding for new appointments will be available until the end of March.
