A former dental receptionist is currently in Mexico undergoing potentially life-saving treatment after friends rallied together to fund the trip.

Julie Norman, from Warndon Villages in Worcestershire, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, but after being told that she had beaten the disease was subsequently diagnosed with liver cancer. The 38 year old was determined to fight the disease and with the help of friends and local people, travelled to Mexico where she is currently undergoing treatment.

Julie is currently taking part in trials for a toxicity-free chemotherapy drug, which claims to bring about remission without any unpleasant side-effects.

Friends of the Norman family, Kelly and James Badham, organised a race night and a bike ride on the 4th May, which are expected to raise a total sum of £3,500.

Sarah Maskell and Keelie Greaves, Julie’s friends, are also organising events to try and help Julie pay back some of the money she had to borrow to fund the treatment, which came to a total of £30,000. Miss Greaves said that Julie was incredibly brave and everyone was doing all they could to support her and try to raise as much money as possible. Keelie is planning to sit in a paddling pool filled with baked beans for three hours on June 16th, while Sarah has already taken part in a sponsored swim with her children, Molly and Jack.

Mrs Maskell said that she had spoken to Julie, who is currently staying with Maskell’s aunt and uncle in San Diego and said that she was in high spirits. The lesions on her liver have halved in size and she is feeling positive.
