Free dental treatment for children in Grey Bruce

Sample News Big

Free dental treatment is available to children under the age of 17 in Grey Bruce as part of programme to target poorer children in Canada, yet many parents are unaware of the affordable services on offer at public health clinics and units and health chiefs and dentists are keen to change this by launching a campaign to coincide with national Oral Health Month.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is launching a campaign to target youngsters who do not have dental insurance and raise awareness of the health and support available for families who struggle to afford dental care.

As part of national Oral Health Month, which will be celebrated across Canada, the Grey Bruce Health Unit will be offering free dental services, including screenings, dental examinations, fillings and fluoride treatments.

Currently, 45 percent of residents in Grey Bruce do not have public or private dental insurance and many people are struggling to afford dental treatment, especially in light of high unemployment rates as a result of the recession.

Figures show that children in Grey Bruce have poor standards of oral health compared to children of the same age in other parts of the province; as a result of this, health executives and public health figures are keen to promote free services and inform parents about affordable dental care in the area.
