Hundreds of children in the Philippines are set to receive free dental care.

Children in grade 1 from 50 selected elementary schools across the country will be provided with free preventative dental treatments, as part of a government initiative managed by the Department of Education. The programme is designed to address the high rates of oral health diseases amongst children living in the Philippines.

The programme has been set up in conjunction with Colgate-Palmolive Philippines; the oral hygiene products giant has already provided a fully-equipped mobile dental unit, which will travel around 50 selected elementary schools, providing much-needed dental treatment for children. The project has been named, the Zero Cavity Mission Project and will run over the course of the next three years.

Education Secretary, Armin Luistro, said that he has high hopes for the programme and hopes that the project will improve standards of oral health and reduce the number of classroom hours missed by children as a result of oral health problems.
