Health departments in Baker County and Clay County are teaming up to expand dental healthcare for underprivileged kids.

Dental professionals from the two Florida counties will offer their services free of charge for a special event, which is due to take place on the 3rd of May. The one-day event will target children without comprehensive insurance policies.

The free dental clinic will be run by staff from Baker County and will take place at a health facility in Clay County. The event is an ideal opportunity to increase cohesion and improve relationships between local people, as well as helping children that are in desperate need of treatment and education.

Free clinics, like this one in Clay County, are becoming increasingly popular in America, with thousands of people now relying on complementary care as a result of having no insurance and no spare money to pay for dental treatment. Millions of Americans don’t have comprehensive dental insurance plans, which means they face high costs when they visit the dentist; with a routine examination often costing around $100, it’s no surprise that many families can’t afford even the most basic dental treatments.

The event in Clay County aims to help children on Medicaid; rates of preventable childhood illnesses, such as tooth decay and obesity, are increasing year on year, with a poor diet and poor lifestyle habits often to blame. The event will help to treat children with decay and will enable dentists to talk to children about the importance of good oral hygiene and lifestyle habits.
