Fire crews were called to a dental practice in Burton yesterday after a fire broke out in the cellar.

Fire fighters were called to Hughes and Owen Dental Care in Lichfield Street yesterday afternoon after smoke started billowing out of the building.

The practice was evacuated and the fire attracted a large crowd of people. Two fire engines were sent from the Burton station at 2.34pm and the fire was contained and brought under control very quickly. Despite the fact that there was smoke pouring out onto the street, nobody was injured and damage was minimal.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service explained that the fire had broken out in the cellar and added that the cause of the fire was under investigation. Two fire engines were sent to the scene at 2.34pm and the crews left at 3.14pm.

Sam Hudson, who was passing at the time, saw the incident and said that smoke was pouring out of the building, but the fire was controlled very quickly and fire fighters used pumps to dampen the flames and prevent any further damage.

A spokesperson for the surgery confirmed that there was only very minor damage and added that nobody was harmed.
