Fakenham dental practice offers free dental days for children

A dental practice in Fakenham is running free dental days for children to try and ensure that more youngsters can see a dentist.

The team at Bridge Street Dental Surgery was inundated with calls and messages after posting about two free dental sessions for children on social media. Within a short period, all the slots for the two days had been filled and staff set about finding a date for a third event.

The practice owners, Dr Khaldon Mohammed and Dr Aseel Salman, have recently taken over the surgery and they wanted to do something to help those who have been waiting for an appointment. They decided to share news of free dental days for kids on social media and parents snapped up the offer. Within a couple of hours, all of the appointments had gone and locals who had been trying to find a dentist for their children breathed a sigh of relief.

Practice manager, Suzanne Gillespie, explained that the new owners were eager to help out as soon as possible. The access issue is well-documented in Norfolk, with adults and children unable to get NHS appointments due to staff shortages and an increase in the demand for treatment. The dental days offer a means for parents, including those whose children are not on the practice list, to make an appointment for a free check-up for their child. The dentists are parents themselves and they understand how important it is for kids to get regular check-ups and for parents to have peace of mind.

Figures published in May 2022 show that there are just 38 dentists per 100,000 patients in Norfolk and Waveney.
