Experts Issue Warning Over Dodgy Dental Drills

Sample News Big

Dental experts have issued a warning about dodgy drills being sold on the internet. According to experts, the drills, which are mass produced in China, look like high quality dental drills but have the potential to be incredibly dangerous.

More than seven hundred counterfeit drills have already been seized by regulators in the UK, but it is possible that there are many more out there. There is also a risk that dentists are using cheap drills without even knowing it.

Dental professionals have been warned to be vigilant, especially when buying equipment online. The counterfeit items look and feel like good quality drills, but they are made from cheap materials and are not regulated in the same way as other utensils used to treat patients in the UK. When buying drills, experts have warned dentists to use approved retailers and distributors only.

Just last month, a dentist from Croydon was charged with selling and supplying counterfeit dental goods. In court in South East London, Dilber Dilshad was given a suspended nine month jail sentence and ordered to pay £2,000. He will also have to complete 200 hours of unpaid work. Dentists across the country have been warned that they face legal action if they are found to be treating patients with counterfeit dental instruments. The 49 year old dentist was charged following investigations by the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Authority. It was later discovered that he had been buying counterfeit drills from China for a unit price of £10 and then selling them on eBay for around £75. Typically, dental drills retail for around £300-£600 and dentists have been advised to avoid any deals that look too good to be true.
