Experts Call for Greater Awareness of Link between Stress and Dental Health

Dental experts have called for greater awareness of the connection between stress and dental health. The call comes before the launch of Bruxism Awareness Week, which is due to run between the 24th and 30th October.

Founders of the Saving Teeth Campaign claim that more should be done to make people aware of the impact of stress on dental health, as figures suggest an increase in the number of people grinding their teeth.

Julian Webber, a leading endodontic specialist, urged people who aware that they grind their teeth to talk to their dentist, as grinding can cause damage to the teeth, especially if the teeth have already become weakened by decay or injury.

The latest Adult Dental Health Survey revealed that moderate tooth wear has increased, with many dentists reporting an increase in the number of patients, especially those working in high-stress jobs, suffering from symptoms of bruxism following the global recession.

With Bruxism Awareness Week set to launch next week, Dr Webber said that this is an ideal time to talk to your dentist about what can be done to prevent tooth damage.
