Exeter Dental Team Celebrate 100% Recommendation Rate

The team of students from Dental Education Facilities in Exeter are celebrating after receiving a 100% recommendation rate from patients who have visited the centre for treatment. The National Family and Friends Test asks patients whether or not they would recommend a dental service to their family and friends and is part of an initiative to improve patient experience within the NHS.

The DEF opened in 2008 in Exeter and thousands of people have visited the facility. Scores of other DEFs in the region were also high, but Exeter was the only one to achieve a perfect result.

The facility is currently based at Heavitree Hospital, but there are plans to relocate the service to the Vesey Building in Salmon Pool Lane. The move will increase capacity and provide students and patients with a more modern dental centre. The number of dental chairs will rise to 42 and students will be able to offer a wider range of treatments under the supervision of their mentors. Students from the Dental Therapy and Hygiene programme will also be helping out and learning on the job.

The building will also act as a base for the community engagement scheme, which is managed by the Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise Community Engagement Team.

In response to the 100% family and friends satisfaction score, Professor Christopher Tredwin, head of the university school of dentistry, said it was a feat to be proud of and encouraged everyone involved with the facilities to keep up the good work.
