Dentist Jamie Nelson from Essex is celebrating after he was named the winner of the Young Dentist Endodontic Award 2013.

Jamie was presented with his award at the awards ceremony, which took place at London’s Harley Street Centre for Orthodontics.

Second prize was awarded to Rupal Shah, and third spot went to Lydia. The winners won a received of £3,500 worth of prizes, which were donated by QED, Dentsply and Sybronedo.

The awards were given to dentists dealing with young patients, the youngest of whom was just 10 years old. At this age, the loss of a tooth would have undoubtedly had a detrimental effect and the young dentists were praised for their hard work and commitment, as well as their compassion and understanding.

Julian Webber, the creator of the Young Dentist Endodontic award, said that it was a joy to be able to celebrate communication skills, as well as clinical excellence. He added that all dentists face difficult decisions in their professional lives, but it is important to follow the best route for the patient and these three young dentists have done that and achieved successful outcomes.

The award was judged by Julian Webber, Trevor Lamb, from the Harley Street Centre for Endodontics and Professor Andrew Eder, from UCL Dental Institute and Hospital.
