Employees Keen on Dental Benefits

A survey has revealed that almost a third of employees who are not offered dental benefits would be keen on their employer providing access to a dental plan.

Despite the clear demand for dental cover through work, fewer than 1 in 5 workers in Britain are offered dental cover through their employer.

The survey, which was carried out by YouGov for Cigna UK, involved around 2,000 people, also revealed that dental benefits are a major incentive for employees, as they provide better value for money and more affordable dental treatment.

The study also showed that more than 70 percent of the respondents had attended a dental appointment within the last twelve months.

The results of the YouGov poll come just days after a recent study carried out for the British Dental Health Foundation revealed that a large proportion of employees were struggling to get time off work to visit the dentist.

The BDHF research revealed that less than half of UK workers are allowed to take time off to attend a dental visit and parents found it particularly difficult, with most forced to take unpaid leave or holidays to take their children to a dental appointment.

The British Dental Health Foundation suggested that dental plans can be very effective because they encourage employees to attend regular appointments, which reduce the risk of complex problems and subsequently reduce the likelihood of workers taking time off sick.
