Ely dental practice set to move to business park

A dental practice located in the heart of Ely is set to move to larger premises out of town.

Enhance Dental Clinic, which is currently based in St Mary’s Street, will relocate to Lancaster Way Business Park after planning officers approved the application.

The practice, which opened in 2008, has outgrown the current premises and owner, Lau Berraondo, wanted to move to the business park to take advantage of a bigger space.

The move was criticised by some planning officers, who felt that the practice should remain in the city centre, but a committee later backed the application on the proviso that conditions were met.

These included restricting the use of the premises to those mentioned in the planning application, including healthcare, office work and research and development.

Planning officers had questioned the impact of the move on the “vitality of Ely city centre” and there were also concerns about parking. The owner of Enhance Dental stressed that no other available properties close to the centre were available and added that the team had been looking for a suitable base for over four years.

The new clinic will create seven more jobs and provide NHS and private dental services. The business park site is larger, which will enable the practice to expand, and it is easily accessible by public transport.
