Elementary school to be provided with preventative dental treatment

Children attending the Springfield Elementary School, in Georgia, will be provided with preventative dental procedures. The programme, intended to be launched in September, is a joint project by the school, Oral Health America: National Sealant Alliance and the Georgia Oral Health Prevention Programme.

The programme will provide cleaning, dental screening exams, fluoride treatment and dental sealants to those participating children who need them. The programme aims to help the school children from avoiding further dental problems in their youth and to help education about oral hygiene. A dentist for the Coastal Health District, Dr. Harry Hickson, was quoted as saying; ‘Sealants are an excellent way to protect against cavities.

This programme will allow us to provide sealants to children who otherwise have no way to get them.’ The only children who qualify are those without insurance and have not had dental treatment for the last nine months, and if any major problems are found the parents of these children will be given the services of a number of local clinics.
