Economy slowdown ‘hits cosmetic dentists’

Financial recession is hitting the cosmetic dental industry, reports the Associated Press.

Joi Freemont, a dentist from Atlanta, said that regular teeth-whitening patients "now want to think about it a bit".

She claimed that demand for braces is lessening, as "people were getting them for the kids, for themselves, but now they’re waiting".

The news source states that Americans are tightening their belts with all aspects of spending as they brace themselves for a difficult financial year.

In related news, Dr Ramin Tabib, New York-based cosmetic dentist has claimed that tooth grinding is increasing among Wall Street executives.

Dr Tabib reports that the current economic climate is taking its toll on chief executives and that the stress is leading to bruxism – tooth grinding.

He said that he now treats around 15 sufferers a month, compared to between five and ten before the economic downturn.
